Today, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II became the longest serving British Monarch in history, having reigned for 63 years, 7 months and 2 days.
It might interest you to know that this great woman who has today broken the record set by her great-great-grand mother, Queen Victoria, was not born to be queen. But as events often orchestrate themselves, it fell out to her to reign over the British empire, and this long.

This great reign, passing through 12 British Prime Ministers and 12 American presidents has seen the heights of prosperity, the depths of family crises and yet the resilience of this great woman.

What have I learnt from this story?

1. The voice of the people is not always the voice of God.

Where people saw a shepherd boy, God saw a king (David).

Where people saw a helpless orphan, God saw a queen (Esther).

Where people saw just another member of the royal family, God saw the longest reigning monarch in British history (Queen Elizabeth II).

2. When I look at this amazing woman, I see strength under control.

Having worked in the army, as a driver and as a mechanic, she maintains a disarming amount of strength underneath those smiles. She is never loud, ostentatious or proud. She carries herself with a deep sense of dignity and I want to be like her.

3. Do you know her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburg?

This is what she said of him: “He is my strength and stay.”

I see a woman who despite her successes, gives honour to her husband as she should.

4. Finally, I see a Christian in her. Here’s what she said about Jesus Christ.

“Although we are capable of great acts of kindness, history teaches us that we sometimes need saving from ourselves. God sent into the world a unique person. Neither a philosopher nor a general, but a saviour with the power to forgive.”

God Save The Queen!
